On Saturday, October 18, 2014, the Board of Directors of Union Housing Development Corporation will present its first Annual Beckett Life Center “Community Heroes Celebration”. My co-chair Jeffrey Smith and I are thrilled to be hosting this event, which marks the Center’s anniversary and the completion of a year of successful programs, activities, and providing much needed resources to the North Philadelphia community. The day’s celebration promises to be festive and exciting, as some of the Center’s heroes will be recognized for their commitment to the Center and community. There will be a retrospective of the year’s work and community-wide activities for all! I am proud to announce that this year’s Community Heroes Celebration will pay tribute to four remarkable advocates and invaluable supporters of the Beckett Life Center including:
- Beverly Coleman, Assistant Vice President for Community Relations of Temple University
- Ryan C. Boyer, Business Manager of Laborer’s District Council
- Travis Fields, President/Owner of Philly Kids Graphics
- Charles and Frances Beckett (posthumously), Community Advocates and Union Housing Development Corporation Founding Members
In their own way, each of our honorees has been instrumental in the success and development of the Beckett Life Center. They are reflective of what is possible when people share the common vision of improving the quality of life for all people, and possess the passion and promise that is found in North Philadelphia. The First Annual Beckett Life Center Community Heroes Celebration will bring together some of the region’s major civic, business, and community leaders for a wonderful day of sharing.
